Windermere and Bowness attract the largest number of visitors to Lakeland. There’s plenty to see and do but you only have to walk a few minutes and you’re out in open country with often magnificent views of the Lake and the fells beyond.
This site has descriptions of some of the best short walks around Windermere or within easy reach.
Orrest Head Fine views over the lake towards the Langdale Pikes.
Millerground Lakeshore, waterfalls and a good view.
Brantfell Views over the lake and farmland walk.
